In the Survival / Prepper community you might hear acronyms that you don’t understand. The following is a quick list of the terms most commonly used.
S.H.T.F. – Shit Hits The Fan: A term used for a major catastrophic event, natural or man-made, that would disrupt normal living and put you into a survival situation.
B.O.B. – Bug Out Bag: A bag packed with necessary items you would need to survive should you have to leave your home.
G.O.O.D. – Get Out Of Dodge: Term often used as a “GOOD Bag”, same as a BOB.
I.N.C.H. – I’m Never Coming Home (Bag): Again, another term for a BOB
G.H.B. – Get Home Bag: Smaller than a BOB that you may carry in your car should you be away from home when a disaster hits. This bag should contain fire making tools, shelter, and other items that will sustain you until you can get back to your home.
72 Hour Kit / Bag – Same as a G.H.B.
E.D.C. – Every Day Carry: Items you choose to carry on your person every day, such as a Firesteel, knife etc.
P.S.K. – Personal Survival Kit: A small kit of items you carry to assist you in an emergency and where rescue is possible. Those items should reflect the needs of the area where you live, or, are likely to be.
Bug Out – Move to a safer location.
B.O.V. – Bug Out Vehicle: A designated vehicle that you will use and have prepared in case of a SHTF situation and you need to Bug Out.
B.O.L. – Bug Out Location: A location other than your home. Presumably a location you have scouted out before a SHTF incident arises. Typically, this location will be remote, and away from densely populated areas.
Bug In – Hunkering down to stay at home.
F.I.F.O. – First In First Out: Critical items that you store, and then moving those stores first should you have to Bug Out.
Genny – A Generator
I.F.A.K. – Individual First Aid Kit
J.I.C. – Just In Case
WWROL – World Without Rule Of Law
TEOTWAWKI – The End Of The World As We Know It: Believe it or not, people use this term. It’s also a great R.E.M. song 😉
Zombie – People who don’t prepare and live in a bubble.
